Jeff Gacula

Digital Designer

Professional Overview

Jeff Gacula is a structural modeller and drafter with a foundation in civil engineering and a deep passion for creating detailed, intelligent 3D models that bring complex structures to life. After starting his career as a civil engineer, Jeff discovered that his true interest lay in the visual and technical precision of modelling - where ideas become tangible, problems reveal themselves in three dimensions, and elegant solutions can be tested before they are built. Now working primarily in Revit and advanced BIM environments, Jeff thrives on shaping bridges, stations and building structures digitally, creating clean, accurate and fully coordinated models. His curiosity extends beyond major infrastructure; in his spare time, he experiments with house designs and residential layouts to keep his creativity sharp and his modelling skills evolving.

Jeff’s working style is quietly focused, highly detailed and deeply considered. He prefers to begin tasks independently, working through challenges methodically before collaborating with colleagues to refine solutions. This balance of introspection and teamwork allows him to deliver exceptionally high-quality outputs - particularly on projects where he is responsible for modelling large, complex structures from the ground up. Jeff finds satisfaction in uncovering practical modelling solutions under deadline pressure, often developing faster or more efficient approaches that support the whole team’s delivery. His background as a former design engineer means he brings a strong technical lens to his drafting work, anticipating issues before they arise and aligning closely with engineers such as Michael, Miran and Vince to ensure models reflect the true design intent.

Jeff is motivated by work that is challenging, iconic and personally meaningful. Whether contributing to the modelling of a major Sydney light rail structure or reflecting on a twin-tower development in which he served as part of the structural team earlier in his career in the Philippines, Jeff takes pride in knowing his work becomes part of the built environment - something real, lasting and used by many. He brings the same dedication to his personal life, channelling his creativity into home design projects and maintaining strong ties with colleagues back home through occasional site visits. At CSS, he values the small-team culture where directors are approachable, collaboration feels natural and everyone contributes to something greater than themselves.

Project EXPERIENCE

Drafter – Bridges & Structure | SMEC | JAN 2023 – MAR 2025

  • Produce technical drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and Revit for structural engineering projects while ensuring compliance with the TfNSW standards.

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers and other drafters in transforming concept design and sketches into high precision models using Revizto, Bluebeam Revu and Navisworks.

  • Assisted senior and principal drafters in modifying and improving existing drawings and models to increase accuracy and project efficiency.

  • Supported documentation process through maintaining an organised workflow and drawing files are accessible for everyone to see, make comments and revisions.

  • Drafter | Estimator | GRMA | AUG 2019 – DEC 2022
