Anirban Akhuli is a structural engineer with a strong focus on bridge engineering, driven by a passion for the discipline and its ability to create meaningful connections for people and communities. Starting his career at a leading multidisciplinary firm and focusing on bridge engineering, he’s developed a strong command of structural analysis, assessment, and detailed design across a variety of bridge structures. Anirban thrives on the fact that no two bridges are the same: each project has its own story and unique set of challenges and solving them is what he finds most rewarding. A recent highlight was leading the design check of a three-span steel–composite integral bridge, where he developed a full 3D finite element model and verified compliance against Eurocodes - an effort that sharpened his technical rigour and reinforced his passion for creating elegant, safe, and constructible solutions.

Curious and future-facing, Anirban is building capability in parametric modelling to create responsive, data-driven designs that update automatically as key parameters change, enabling faster iterations and smarter solutions. He’s pragmatic about emerging AI, keen to apply it where it adds value, but clear that engineering judgement and verification remain essential. Looking ahead, he’s eager to take on complex bridge typologies, including suspension bridges and to grow into a leadership role where he can mentor juniors and elevate team standards.

Anirban joined CSS for its people and the culture. He values an in-person, team-first environment where quick conversations, whiteboarding and shared problem-solving keep complex projects moving and morale high. Mentored by his fellow Brisbane team colleagues, he brings a collaborative, steady working style and a genuine enthusiasm for continual learning. Outside work, he enjoys exploring new cuisines (and cooking a few himself), travelling, and keeping up with industry advances - interests that reflect an open, inquisitive approach he brings to every project.
