CSS provided engineering design input into existing transformer masonry bund wall strengthening such that it could contain a deluge, fire protection walls comprising panels supported by steelwork around the periphery of the transformer and rated blast walls to protect adjacent infrastructure. Strengthening was also required to existing slabs for support of the proposed wall


Technical Innovations

CSS was able to incorporate reuse of much of the existing infrastructure as possible in designing the new wall system, thus reducing this projects environmental footprint. This required some strengthening of existing walls and augmenting existing concrete slabs for support of the proposed wall framing systems. The new steelwork for the project was designed such that it consisted of simple repetitive details, was of manageable portions for ease of transport, maneuvering and installation on site.

Benefits to Client

CSS undertook an initial design criteria assessment and identified information gaps. This helped the client make some informed decisions related to the design and also allowed for the design to evolve taking into consideration some of these risk items. Making use of repetitive detailing in steelwork and fire panels, meant that fabrication could be turned around in a shorter time frame. Having smaller manageable segments of the structure on a constrained site resulted in ease of installation without the need for large equipment

Deliverables to client

CSS provided all the structural engineering aspects of the bund wall strengthening, wall system design and supporting foundations. CSS was also able to provide ongoing advice dung construction
